1.       Overview

SDH has been dominant in the application of telecommunication, for its high capacity, long distance and high quality transmission, powerful network management, excellent self- healing, compatibility and easy upgrade. Typically, bandwidth IP WAN connects with backbone network through IP over SDH interfaces. With the expansion of backbone network, the applications such as monitoring, surveying, service analysis, data transmission also grows rapidly, especially in network access control system, traffic analysis system, P2P control system, etc.

All of the complex applications mentioned need high performance servers to deal with large data traffic of 2.5G, 10G even multiple 10G at the same time, but existing single-server could not meet such requirement. Thus head-end distribution devices which could distribute high capacity links like 2.5G and 10G play a key role in the systems.

2.       Introduction

OptiWay is considerably professional in the value-added telecommunication service when dealing with collection, protocol conversion, classification, filtering, convergence, distribution and duplication in Ethernet, SDH/POS application.

OptiWay has powerful expandability and high reliability, for its development based on the international standard ATCA (PICMG 3.0, PICMG3.1, AMC.0, AMC.1series standards). The key features of OptiWay show are as follows:

Strong-adaptability. OptiWay not only can provide high performance single-board and double-board solutions to the monitoring of low intensity links, but also can provide  large capacity solutions based on the backplane switch to the application of high intensity links.

Traffic access: OptiWay supports various interface boards, enabling to access links of 10G POS, 10GE, 2.5G POS, 622M POS, 155M POS, GE/FE. It also supports mixed, high-density, single-board up to four 10G or sixteen 2.5G links.

Protocol convention: OptiWay can convert packets on 2.5G/622M/155M POS interfaces into gigabit Ethernet (GE) frames in line speed. POS interface supports the PPP, HDLC and MPLS encapsulation protocol. It is also compatible with underlying encapsulation parameters smoothly.

●  Packet matching and filtering: OptiWay provides second stage matching procedure, 128K matching table, or 32K extensional matching table. IPV4, IPV6, MPLS tag matching, four-tuple, TCP flag, packet length, user-defined content matching of application layer are supported by OptiWay. All the matching mentioned above are all support mask or range method, interconnection between rules, dynamic configuration. OptiWay manages classification with rule set management, user could create and configure various rule set (the number of rules is determined by the Saves) , and binding them with interfaces.

●  Traffic filtering, convergence, load balancing distribution: OptiWay provides filtering and distributing based on the result of classification. Several inputs from different single-board would be converged when passing OptiWay switching path. OptiWay's distribution should setting output interface and load balancing mechanisms, which including RoundRobin, Hash, random sampling, Hash sampling with connecting, etc. Distribution can be divided into distinct modes separately based on source IP, destination IP of four-tuple (source IP, destination IP, source port, destination port). Interface in each board is the smallest rule configuring unit, in other words, user can set distribution rule for certain flow from certain POS interface.

●  Duplication: OptiWay can duplicate traffic fitting with the same rule: user could set duplicate mode when the flow comfort to certain rule. And the copied traffic would be distributed to another GE output interface with the original traffic containing unaffected.

●  Encapsulation: OptiWay would encapsulate IP packets which meet GE standard with information of input interface. It also can shorten and extract useful headers of output packet.


3.       Solution

Based on the architecture of backbone network and WAN, existing value-added services mainly apply bypassing mode, the advantage of which is that when inserting new device or service, the reliability of backbone node or the whole backbone network would not be affected. The solution is: duplicate traffic from convergent node or egress node to head-end distribution devices through splitters and other methods, and then obtain the packets by distribution device for analyzing while classification and filtering functions are provided to adapt to various services. 

Based on bypassing traffic mirror model, OptiWay captures users’ Internet access and combines bandwidth service demand model, to provide effective control and value-added services, improving service quality and increasing profit for operators. The specific services shows as follow:

●  Internet access control system: keeping teenage from online pornography and "vulgar" content

●  Content push service system: Service operators could allocate Internet advertisements publish platform in telecommunication backbone network. Once user accesses Internet, he would see information or advertisement issued by service operator, no matter what page he opens. The content of information could be dynamically arranged on different time and for different customers. Telecommunications could use this system to solicit users for overdue bills, advertise new service, and even incorporate with Advertisement Corporation for increasing profit.

●  Bandwidth Internet sharing monitoring and blocking system: This system could find out those who access Internet using the same ID, and invalid cyber bar for preventing missing charging. In the meantime, service operator could block, warn and ex post treat on time facing invalid using.

●  Invalid VOIP monitoring and blocking system: This system helps telecommunications struggle against invalid IP telephone service, keeping normal telephone service working regularly. In the meantime, this system could detect the IP address of computer, telephone, the gateway of VOIP which are used in IP communication. If the user employs dynamic dialing way to use IP telephone service, system could detect user's ID, telephone number and so on. Once the invalid user is detected, service operator would inform, warn, disturb, disconnect or get the user offline compulsively.

●  Internet service analysis system: This system shows IP network usage with graphic, helping service operator understand the situation of network.
